Getting Unlisted Reservations with the Amex Concierge

Tl;dr: The Amex Concierge might be able to snag you a reservation that isn’t available to the public.

A little while ago, I decided to upgrade to the Amex Platinum. For science. More on that later. But today I just want to briefly talk about one of that card’s (many) perks: concierge service.

My wife and I wanted to do a special dinner, and we wanted to check out Kin Khao, a local Michelin-starred restaurant that seemed somewhat affordable. There was a table available when we first started to formulate the plan, but by the time our schedules coordinated there were no tables available to reserve on the day and time we wanted, and our would-be dinner was just a few days away. Sad trombone.

But, I figured, why not give Amex a call and see what they can do? For science. After all, Kin Khao is a Resy restaurant, and Resy and Amex partner up in several ways.

Well, it worked. After explaining, that we wanted a table for two at 7pm on Saturday, I waited on hold for about three minutes while the concierge reached out to the restaurant. And the results were impressive:

It wasn’t perfect—we had to settle for a 7:15 seating instead of 7 (gasp!). Still, the food was delicious and we had a great time. This might not work every time, but if you have an Amex card with concierge service (Platinum, Hilton Aspire, Delta Reserve) and you’re having trouble finding a reservation, it can’t hurt to reach out and see if Amex can help book you a table!
