All Major Cards with Global Entry Credits Match DHS’s Price Increase
Tl;dr: Amex, Capital One, Chase, and Citi are all raising their Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credits on applicable cards to match a DHS Price increase.
The Department of Homeland Security’s Trusted Traveler Programs allow travelers to streamline and expedite their security (TSA PreCheck) and customs (Global Entry) screening processes. Global Entry is slightly more expensive, but because Global Entry includes PreCheck, I generally recommend signing up for Global Entry.
For years, many credit cards have allowed cardholders to join either of these programs for free by offering up to $100 in statement credits when paying for either of these services with the applicable credits. Global Entry, the more expensive of the programs, cost $100 to enroll. However, starting in October, the price of that program will rise to $120, raising the possibility that those statement credits would no longer cover the full cost of the program.
However, Capital One recently announced that their statement credit will be increasing to $120 to match DHS’s price increase, following similar announcements from Amex, Chase, and Citi. So if you Global Entry yet, or are looking to get it, you’ll still be able to do so for free with one of many cards issued by these banks, including LazyPoints favorites like the Capital One Venture X, IHG Premier, and Delta Amex Platinum.
