Earn AAdvantage Miles for Donations To Cancer Research
Tl;dr: Earn up to 25 miles per dollar donated.
I talked recently about getting bonus points for charitable donations. To quickly sum up that post, charitable donations don’t usually earn bonus credit card points, but airlines, hotels, and/or credit card companies do occasionally team up to offer points incentives to donate. While it’s generally best to find a few charities you believe in and focus your giving there, when an opportunity pops up to earn bonus miles on a charity you already believe in, it may be worth jumping on the opportunity.
Now through September 30th, American Airlines is offering just such an opportunity. If you donate to Stand Up to Cancer, you’ll receive: 2 AAdvantage miles for every dollar donated under $25, or 25 miles for every dollar donated at or above $25.
Unfortunately, I was a little slow in getting the news out, as Mastercard kicked it up to 50 miles per dollar when using an AA Mastercard (like the Aviator), but the $3 million donation limit has already been reached. Still, 25 miles per dollar is an outstanding return on charitable donation (in addition to whatever your credit card earns), so if cancer research in general or Stand Up to Cancer (which has an A rating on CharityWatch) in particular are among your charitable passions, you might want to take advantage of this promotion.
