Amazon Fresh is Back
Tl;dr: Prime members now get free delivery on $100+ orders.
Once upon a time, Amazon prime members could get free grocery delivery on orders of just $35. I loved it because it was a quick and easy way to get a few items on short notice without having to make a trip to the store. I liked it even more when I realized my Amex Gold was counting the Amazon delivery as a grocery purchase and giving me 4x points on it. But I stopped using the service completely when the minimum order for free delivery skyrocketed to $150.
I could never spend that much on Amazon Fresh, especially since the selection is somewhat limited and, in my experience, they would always be out of stock on at least one key item on the shopping list. But they recently announced a change that has me at least considering using the service again:
While $100 is a lot, it’s at least a plausible number to hit if you don’t have expensive taste or multiple kids. Now people like me who are too lazy to go to the store have a decent free*-delivery grocery option that can also earn significant credit card bonus points. (*Tipping is customary, of course.) Although I haven’t tested the service with other cards, it may also be possible to earn bonus points on other cards with increased earning on groceries like the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Citi Premier, Capital One Savor, Discover It, and Amex Hilton Surpass. That’s not to mention the Amazon Prime Visas’s 5% cash back on Amazon purchases.
It may be a small change, but it’s a welcome one for lazy points nerds.
