Amex Platinum has 40th Anniversary Deals

Tl;dr: Amex has great summer deals for Platinum Card holders; be sure to check your offers before booking travel!

It is the 40th anniversary of the American Express Platinum card, and Amex is rolling out a variety of perks and travel deals in celebration of that anniversary. While most of the benefits are fairly niche, there are a few big Amex Offers in this promotion that might be very valuable for Platinum cardholders looking to book travel in the near future.

The big offers

If you’re planning to travel soon and have an Amex Platinum, check your offers! There are big discounts on big names like Delta, JetBlue, Hilton, and Hertz. You can get $40+ back, and only need to spend $150-200, depending on the merchant.

Other benefits

You can read about the other perks here. They include a free third night at certain Fine Hotels + Resorts and Hotel Collection hotels booked via Amex, a 40% bonus when transferring points to Hilton Honors, special dining and event opportunities, statement credits with various merchants (beyond those listed above), and special treats at Amex Centurion airport lounges.

I found the third night credits to be too limited and too confined to high-end properties to be valuable, and Hilton points are among the least valuable points you could have, so those hotel benefits are of little value to me. The dining and events are likewise upscale and too rich for my blood. And the lounge perks are nice but don’t carry any real value.

But while some of the other offers like Lululemon, Sephora, and Wine.com don’t appeal to me, others might get some real value from them, so be sure to check them out.

Conclusion

I wouldn’t rush out to get a Platinum card for these offers, but if you already have one you might want to take advantage, especially if you are thinking of planning a trip in the near future!
